Our vision is for an Alberta where “All Canadians have the ability and opportunity to fully participate in society with the aid of Information and Communication Technology”
In support of this vision, the mandate of the ACNA Network is “to support individuals and organizations in achieving their goals by enhancing their technological capacity”.
The essence of the mandate is incorporated into five guiding principles.
Principle #1: Empower Alberta’s citizen’s in the use of technology
Technology represents a powerful set of tools that can be utilized by any individual. Ultimately, unlocking the true power of these tools can only be achieved if the individual has developed the required internal expertise or is able to access the required external expertise. The ACNA is about helping to develop the internal expertise while assisting with the external expertise.
Principle #2: Provide access to IM/IT products and services for Alberta’s citizen’s in as cost effective and relevant manner as possible
ACNA strives to make IM/IT services accessible and affordable for Alberta’s citizen’s. This mandate involves all aspects of IM/IT from support to training to hardware/software to web services.
Principle #3: Supporting the growth of local capacity to assist the individual
Recognizing the importance of getting as much help on the ground as possible, the ACNA is a committed to supporting local organizations that understand the community and are best equipped to deal with local needs.
Principle #4: Leverage existing knowledge and expertise to generate new technology opportunities for Alberta’s citizen’s
The ACNA actively seeks out new and/or innovative ways to expand the nature and scope of available ICT services. This involves extensive consultation with those organizations capable of contributing to the growth and development of the capacity of all Albertans.
Principle #5: Contribute to the Canada-wide initiative to support all Canadians in the use of Technology for the advancement of society
As one of a network of e-ssociations from across Canada, the ACNA actively contributes to the development and implementation of a Canada-wide network. This includes contributing our knowledge and expertise to the development process at the national level while applying, at the local and provincial levels, what we have learned from the other regional representatives.
